Daddy can I have a clown at my birthday?

Alden called me at work today and asked if he could have a clown at his birthday.

I didn’t understand him at first, and told him to repeat.

“Daddy, can I have a clown at my birthday?”

“Of course, yes you can have a clown”

He was so excited he put down the phone and went running off to mommy and Grand D. and “Daddy said I could have a clown!”

He then talked about the message on the answering machine for the clown service.  When Alden and mommy called about the clown, the message said that the clowns were getting an elephant out from under the house.  Alden thought that was great!

I can’t wait for his birthday!  We’ll have a clown and the Carousel!

Out of the ‘Woods’

We’re almost out of the woods, should be released today.  Yea!  Watching TV at the hospital…..  Speaking of woods, Tiger Wood’s job is to swing a club at a ball - he could do his job without ever opening his mouth.  Not like he has to even yell ’Fore’.   Why is this news…..   Now I remember why we don’t watch this stuff.

It’s Cold Again

Grandma was sick on Friday, so she couldn’t watch Alden.  Alden had been sick Thursday and had to come home from school with some twenty-four hour bug.  MH took Alden to school on Friday because he was feeling better.  Grand D. picked up Alden from school.  When I got home Alden told Grand D. “It’s time for you to go home now Grand D.”  I guess it’s Daddy time.  :-)

It was getting cold out so we made a big fire in the fire place - got to burn up the last of the wood.  We played upstairs.  MH heated up some chicken, rice and veggies.  She wasn’t feeling very well, so went to bed.  Alden and I took a bath and I read him three books.  Then I sung Puff the Magic Dragon a few times and he was asleep.  One of the last times I’ll get to rock him to sleep.

The Saints Go Marching In

Superbowl Sunday!  After going to see Sesame Street Live, Alden and I headed back to the house for the SuperBowl party.  We were hosting in our new kitchen!  When we arrived Oscar was just finishing up installing the stove.  We tested it and it worked!  Just in time to put the food in the oven.  Mary-Helen made a Who Dat sign with a fleur-de-lis which looked great, and she hung it on the door.  MH put Alden in a Reggie Bush Saints T-Shirt.

MH had made red beans and rice and crawfish pie.  We had bought some Abita beer and Zapps chips for the party too.  As people were arriving, I was making the fruit salad.  We had to put the beans in a wok to heat them up faster.  New Orleans was losing through the first half, so I didn’t miss a lot of cheering.  Connor and Jamie arrived with Leo, and Alden played with them throughout most of the party.  They had a great time playing with cars and throwing a football around the house.  You can run straight from the back door to the front wall through the new open kitchen!

At half-time we all ate.  Everything was ready at perfect timing.  The food was excellent!  We had salad, fruit salad, zapps, crawfish pie, and red beans and rice.

The Saints won!  It was a great game.  They started the second half with an on sides kick and that got things going.  Everyone cheered and had a great time.  After the game, we cleaned up what we could but the new dishwasher wouldn’t close.

MH and Alden stayed in Houston for the night.  We got up and had breakfast Monday morning together which was very nice.  We had leftover fruit salad and cereal.  They got ready, and started packing to head back as I started another week of work.

Ninety-Eight

Sunday morning MH and Alden made waffles.  After breakfast Alden played in the woods with MH as I lit the burn pile in the back.  It took a long time to get started, probably because everything has been so wet.  It was the largest blaze I’ve ever made.  It died down within 20 minutes.

We then ate a snack while the pile burned down and went to go visit Grand D.  Alden played and we all visited.  Alden watched some Thomas the Train and some Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on the computer.  He kept getting into drawers and pulling out rubber bands.  He put them around his cup and got some band-aids and put them on his shirt.

We went through Taco Bell on the way home since MH and Alden wanted tacos.  Alden saw a very large 98 cents sign on the window, pointed and said “Ninety-Eight!”  Wow, I was so impressed!  Not even 2 and a half years old!

Alden napped and I reworked the burn pile and got it going again, moving the edge stuff that didn’t burn to the center.  I put on the stumps from the second tree stump and weed-eated all around the pile.  As I was finishing up and trying to get rid of ant mounds, I saw a long black snake where the second tree stump had been.  I didn’t think it contained a snake becuase a huge toad I had in there on Saturday.  The snake was really agressive!  It chased towards me, hissed, and shook its tail.  He went down a hole and I went to get the mower.  As I passed back by, he stuck his head up.  I called MH, but the neighbors heard and Newt came over with two shovels and we got the snake.  MH came out and looked and I put him in the fire pit.  He came back to life briefly before he burned.

Next we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s for dinner.  Alden ate a ton of ham!  It was a very yummy dinner with ham, bread, pumpkin butter, carrotts, and scalloped potatos.  GG made a good cake with chocolate frosting for dessert and served it with strawberries and apples.  Alden went for a golf cart ride.  I played with him on the playground and went down the slide several times.  He kept saying, go down the slide with me.  Go down the slide first.

We went by GG and Gramp’s house on the way home to look for scuba stuff.  I helped Alden pick a pear off the tree.  He really likes those hard pears!

Pumpkins and Marshmallows!

MH made pumpkin soup, break, risotto, roasted pumpkin seeds, and chocolate pumpkin cake.  It was all very delicious!  She cooked six pumpkins!  Alden and I played outside until it was ready.  We took Sandy out with us.  The water from all the rain really did a number in the back yard.  Grand D. came over too.

Alden and I sang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang several times.  We went upstairs to play and Alden said, “I’m going to go check my email.”  Haha!  Wow.

Alden and I took a bath after dinner while MH and Grand D. cleaned up.  We said goodbye to GD and made a fire in the fire pit that MH gave me for my birthday.  We roasted some marshmallows!  Alden really liked them, but he was very tired.  We only did two sets of two before he wanted to go inside.  I think he was just cold.  He went right to sleep.
