NASA JSC 50th Classic Car Show
I drove the 1967 Black Corvette down to JSC today for the NASA JSC StarPort 50th Classic Car Show! I had a great time and got to see some other classics, enjoy a hot dog, and meet car enthusiasts. It was a great ride down and scary ride back. I had a going away party for a co-worker after work, then had to drive home in the dark. The instrument panel shorted out. Also, apparently it took out the rear tail lights. I didn’t know about that until someone graciously told me while I was driving that my tail lights weren’t working. I pulled over and found that, after messing with the steering column and switch that the turn signal would work. So I drove all the way home with my blinker on, but at least people could see me! I guess I will need to replace the switch in the steering column just like I had to do for the 66.
Starport is turning 50 on July 24! To commemorate this, we will be holding several events leading up to the big date to celebrate our past, present and future. Included in these celebrations is a Classic Car Show in front of Building 1 on July 18. Since this is also the week of the anniversary of the Apollo lunar landing, we want to showcase cars that were around during the Apollo era — 1975 and older. We only have space for 40 cars (no trailers allowed), so if we have more than 40 entries, we will have a random drawing. Drivers must be badged to come on site.
